Miral castle
Located at Bédouès, this castle is in the heart of the Cévennes, in the former province of Gévaudan.
The Chateau de Miral was built in the 13th century and was expended towards the 16th and 17th century by The Malbosc de Miral family who enlarged it gradually. During your tour, the different stages of its building will be explained to you. The gothic residence that you will be able to see, had been constructed towards the 15th century around the donjon and the ramparts. The Chapel, which is adorned with 14th century fresco, will also be open to visit.
During the French Revolution, the residents of the Malbosc de Miral family were guillotined and the castle was sold. Since then, it was falling apart until it was auctioned off in the early 1980’s. Restoration work on this ancient catholic fief began and in 1984 was classified as a National Heritage Site.
